Born in 1977 in Agen in the South-West of France, Matthieu took his first drum lessons at the age of 6 accompanied by his father, a former amateur drummer and jazz enthusiast.

After spending 5 years at the Pau Conservatory (learning Classical Percussion in Patrick Guise's class), in 1996 he joined the team at the CMCN (Centre Musical et Créatif de Nancy), thus refocusing on the drums alongside others. others by Richard Paul Morellini, Franck Agulhon and André Charlier.

He completes the course as Major of his Promotion.

In the summer of 1997, following decisive meetings during the course of Jazz in Marciac (Oscar Peterson, Elvin Jones) he decided to go to New York for a few months.

There he met musicians such as John Riley, Kenny Washington, etc..

During the three years that followed, enrolled at the Conservatoire National de Toulouse, already professional, Matthieu played in various groups (Big bands, “ball” variety orchestras).

He finished his studies in Toulouse with a First Prize in drums (unanimously) and the State Diploma in Jazz.

In September 2000, Matthieu finally left the South West of France and entered the Jazz and Improvised Music Department of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, studying drums for 3 years alongside Daniel Humair.

In June 2003, he won the First Prize (with congratulations).

After a few months spent again in New York in 2005 (private lessons with Jeff Ballard, Ari Hoenig), he made the definitive choice to reside in Paris.
